By now, you have already guessed my obsession for I’m From products especially their wash-off masks. So it came as a no surprise when they announced their new fig line launch, it had my heart racing with excitement. But their new mask launch was unlike their previous products, in fact, it was their first kind of variant – the Fig scrub mask. Now I know scrub masks are quite controversial and while many people like to use a gentle face scrub as a part of their skincare routine, some like to stay away from it completely. So how good are face scrubs? What are the benefits of fig as an ingredient in skincare? Read on the I’m From Fig scrub mask review to know more.

Are face scrubs good?

While in skincare, nourishing, hydrating, and moisturizing the skin may play an important role, equally important it is to exfoliate the skin gently either with chemical exfoliating products (acids such as AHAs, BHAs, PHAs) or physical exfoliating products (scrub masks). And for the skin to effectively absorb all the goodness from a skincare regime, removing dead skin cells play a crucial role.

Myth on face scrubs.

“Face scrubs are too harsh for the skin” – Fact: Some face scrubs that contain irregularly-shaped particles can be harsh on the skin by causing micro-tears in the skin surface. However, scrubs containing very fine particles that dissolve effortlessly when gently scrubbed can be skin-friendly.

About the Fig Scrub Mask?

  • Claims: a face scrub that gently removes dead skin cells resulting in clear skin.

Like its name, this scrub mask contains fig fruit powder (1.2%) along with black sugar, walnut shell powder, almond seed, and even caramel making this an effective yet gentle exfoliating wash-off mask. Fig (Ficus Carica) as an ingredient in skincare has some excellent benefits. They are rich in polyphenols, omega fatty acids, and vitamins (vitamin A, B1, and B2) and have excellent antioxidant properties. They also enhance the skin’s hydration, improve skin tone, and calms redness.

How I have been using this:

  • Apply and leave it on the face for around 5 minutes so that the scrub mask softens slightly from the skin’s temperature and then do a gentle scrub and wash off with lukewarm water.
  • For a gentle scrub: Using this scrub on a slightly dampened face can make the scrub more gentle and easy to apply.
  • Adding a facial oil or an oil cleanser makes this scrub even milder.
  • This is a great scrub for the body too, especially the elbows and back.

In all the above cases, the mask washed off easily without being scratchy or leaving my skin dry. This mask left no residue and I didn’t need a second round of cleansing after this. The smell is very pleasant and not at all overpowering.

My thoughts

My skin type is dry to combination skin (slightly oily in the T-zone and dry in other areas) and my skin has never really gelled well with chemical exfoliators, mainly AHAs (alpha hydroxy acid). So, I have always been on a hunt for a good yet gentle face scrub.

The I’m From Fig Scrub Mask has very fine sugar crystals that dissolve effortlessly when scrubbed gently. I use this mask on a damp face as I feel this facilitates an easier and a more gentle scrub. It washes off easily without any residue and it did not feel abrasive on my skin. My skin felt super smooth, clear, and soft. This scrub mask did not dry out my skin, in fact, it left my skin feeling moisturized.
